We lost Betty Broyles, wife of Russ Broyles, on February 23, 2005. Betty had cancer of the throat, and had been taking treatments for it. She seemed to be getting better, then at the end of February, she took a turn for the worst. Russ said she suffered only about a week. Russ attended our March meeting, on his birthday. He had his son, David: and his son-in-law, Michael Clayton, with him, as his support group.

Several V-8’ers attended the funeral. Bill & Sue Macaulay gave up driving their V-8 Pick-up so they would have room to bring me with them to the funeral. Afterward we were the only V-8’ers to attend the Gathering at Russ’s home. Many friends and neighbors came & helped him. Michael's daughter, Michele and Russ’s daughter, Patricia, were by his side during such a difficult time.

Betty had been part of the Sheriff Department’s Civilian Office helpers. She really enjoyed working with the police and doing what she could to help her community. They will not be able to replace her easily. She worked with such enthusiasm.

Betty also enjoyed learning about her new computer. Her E-mail’s were a real delight. The new kitchen really put a bright smile on her face. It’s a good thing Betty made their home a nice, sunny place. Russ isn’t rambling around in a dark cave. His bright home must help, even on dark days. God will be with both Betty & Russ.

I want to take this time to thank all the people who have been helping me get to our V-8 functions. Ted Johnson is always there to pick me up the evening of our Meetings. He is so faithful and I have always appreciated his help. He’s been giving me his Cruzin’ News magazine, so I can put a few car activities on the Events page.

Several people were concerned that I would have trouble getting to other Club events. As I said elsewhere, Bill & Sue took me to the funeral and then paid for my lunch at the Indian casino. Bev & Jean Davis picked me up before the Mystery Tour and took me to the
Executive Airport. Steve Walker offered me a ride in his new ‘35 Pick-up. As we toured
beside the river, on our way to the Caypay Valley, Steve was the first person I’ve ridden with who knew all the names of each bend in the river and all the tales to go along with the places. I really enjoyed that trip. Thanks to all who called and E’d, to make sure I was able to attend everything. :)Charlotte
