OLD CARS and OLD AIRPLANES BBQ ‘06Steve Wahab mentioned someone stole his steak off the BBQ grill at the Clarksburg Airport last year. Someone else complained the two household BBQ grills available didn’t have enough room to cook their steak. Andy Nantz and Charlotte Murray borrowed space on our corn BBQ to cook their steaks. Essentially we were short of BBQ’s to comfortably provide satisfactory cooking space. The best count of BBQ’s that came up for this year was 3 worse than last year’s count. Lots of hungry steak eaters, but not too many BBQ’s. Jackie & I planned to dedicate ours to cooking yellow V-8corn with our BBQ .It was suggested I call Ben Couch. He has a large BBQ that we used for the Progressive Dinner at the Kane residence last year. That would take care of the BBQ shortage. In a phone conversation with Ben, he informed me he only uses it once a year, for his Church Social. Unfortunate it was scheduled on the same date. I spoke to Dave March at the Auburn Swap Meet, asking if he might have a suggestion. “One of John Sweeny’s helpers might have one”….. No luck. Then, on the way home, I remembered the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce had a large converted pickup bed BBQ, owned by Jim Racy. He had built it for their annual chicken cook off. Without hesitation he said, “Sure the V-8 Club can use it.”
