Many things happened last few months. A few are not good news. Buren Houser passed away On Buren & Shirley’s anniversary, October 29th, after several bad months of struggling against cancer. He had loved to drive his green ‘53 Sedan.

Russ picked me up and we went together to Buren’s “Celebration of Life” at the Elks Lodge in Elk Grove. We met Fred Hultin & Lynda Bates there and shared a table. The room was filled with much love, much laughter, and some tears. The family shared many happy memories with the large gathering and many were wonderfully happy. A friend played the guitar and sang a few of Buren’s favorite country songs and everyone joined in at the end.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when the Air Force did their ceremony to present Shirley with a United States of America Flag in honor of Buren’s service to his country.

Then November 15th one of our new members, Mark Lloyd. Passed away. He had a ‘34 Ford pickup with a ‘59ab, a ‘41 Ford Business Coupe shell, no engine or trans. He once said he enjoyed seeing everyone and especially those Early Ford V-8’s being driven. His father was Jack Loyd, lead singer for Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.

Now on to happier news. Russ picked me up for the Towe Tree Trimming Pot Luck. I had been told not to arrive before 4 pm on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We arrived at 5 minutes to 4, and found Matt Thurston and his gang had already decorated the tree!

The Pot Luck was suppose to start at 5 pm, but everyone in all the other Car Clubs in the area decided they were hungry at 4 and got ready to eat ! Russ & I were joined by Rob & Sue Watts and Bev & Jean Davis. We also saw Ruth Anne & Connie Rose, sitting with the Buick Club and Bob Krieg, sitting with another Club. Bob has a ‘39.

The food was wonderful! Ate too much (but I didn’t gain any weight over that weekend !). Russ had picked up a clock for our Club’s contribution to the raffle. But no one at our table won any of the raffle prizes. Rob & Sue Watts took me home.

I want to take this time to thank all the V-8’ers for remembering me and offering to take me places and be sure I get home. Medically not being able to drive any more is quite a handicap, but friends make it easier to deal with. BTW: In case you don’t already know, October 19, 1994 I became horribly dizzy at work that morning and haven’t been able to drive since. No, nothing is wrong with my ears. After months of tests, the doctors decided I had a stroke, even though I had none of the usual problems associated with a stroke. As long as they send me a check, I don’t care anymore. But I’m the only one who really knows what happens in my mind and it wouldn’t be safe for me to drive at all. But, I deal with it every day.
