SWAP MEET WORRIES

The Capital Model A swap meet at Consumnes River College in May was a poor showing, maybe 50 vendors. Neither buyers nor sellers were there at 8:30. No one buying the pancakes or coffee; or anything else, either. The Car Corral had 7 vehicles for sale. Long time Model A member, Jerry Bengal remarked, “This is bad. Even John Sweeny and his booth hasn’t shown up.”

It’s suggested a Hum Dinger of a 125 car show be added to our September swap meet. The rent and the insurance is pre-paid, so charging $20 per car to be in our show, with a chance to win a trophy, would add interest and add to our income. I figure a staff of 4 to control parking and 3 judges to break a tie. People will enjoy voting for their favorites in different categories, such as ORIGINAL, CUSTOMS, and a PEOPLE’S CHOICE. Registration for the Car Show would begin at 8 am, to avoid interference with Swap Meet Vendor collections.

We have 3 months to pull together something to increase our revenue for our only money making event of the year. If you have a better idea, let’s hear it! Gene Hall
