Early Ford V-8 Club
Tour of Historic Rocklin
Saturday, May 20th
Rocklin is one of those towns that finding the start, middle and finish is a challenge, but a very interesting puzzle.
Starting at Brookfields on Sunrise and Folsom at
8:30 AM for breakfast and schmoozing, we will then leave at 10 AM to start our
journey back in time.

At 11 AM, we will meet at the Rocklin Museum (a
completely restored 1910 Victorian home of the town doctor - Dr. Fletcher).
Guide/docent Gay Morgan will give us a private tour and chat about Rocklin’s
history. In the basement are artifacts and tools used in the granite industry
which made this little town the second largest metropolis in Placer County in
the mid to late 1800’s. We are privileged to have Roy Ruhkala, Past President of
the Rocklin Historical Society, be our guide. He is one of the last son’s (his
father was born in 1869) of the Ruhkala family who owned and operated one of the
largest and last functioning granite quarries.
We will continue on our tour visiting a defunct
quarry, taking in areas where the Niesnan Indians settled, the Chinese lived as
they worked building the railroads, old town Rocklin, the historic St Mary’s
Church in the soon to be Heritage Park and a final drive through parts of the J.
Whitney estate.

Lunch is at 1 PM at Hacienda Del Roble on Granite Drive for those interested.
