WESTERN NATIONAL FORD V-8 MEET
TACOMA ADDENDUM - OVER RESTORING

Some things need to be said. Your reporter has been mulling a story that Dan Schwartz related to me in our telephone conversation relating to the Western National Early Ford V-8 Meet 2006, Tacoma, Washington.

A perfectly (over) restored 1932 Ford V-8 Panel Truck showed up. So much detail was attended to that the V-8 emblems on the hub caps were vertically aligned with the valve caps. Dan indicated that he was absolutely fascinated with the mechanical concern that was given to the vehicle and admired to workmanship that was involved. Unfortunately, the Judge actually deducted 5 points for over restoring The owner refused to sign the scorecard.

“In my opinion, the Judge has done me a favor, since my quality of workmanship level is so lacking. I have stayed awake nights working about the humiliation I’ll receive when I show up with my pile of scrap parts, claiming to have restored it.”

However, in the opinion of the 1932 V-8 panel truck owner, this was not acceptable. In subsequent conversation with the judges, he was also disqualified from the competition. For some apparent verbal displeasure directed at the Judges, 5 point deduction for over restoration.

HELLO ! This is a hobby for the “Over the Hill Gang,” with the thrill of competition and the agony of defeat. We use these beloved V-8’s as a method of enjoying a common ground with friends. This is not Little League nit picking! How say YOU ?
